How do we ground a period cottage better in to its setting?

This project was one of our more subtle design interventions. The garden was slightly lacklustre and our clients had spent a couple of years planning and carrying out a major refurbishment of their home before turning theirs eyes outward to the garden.

Our brief was to include creating a new productive area in an extended orchard, to add and extend to the existing planting and to rationalise the layout which was a series of small incidental beds dotted through a tired lawn.  All this new work needed to be protected from the lovely but lively family dogs.

The resulting design weaves a fenceline through the garden, aged York stone provides small paved areas and a more formal layout for the front garden gives the house the stature it deserves.
